The exciting new collective, co-founded by Cinema Jam member Melissa Jean Woodside, is back in September with their first screening competition.

The wonderful people at Catfish Shorts are taking their ethos, of spotlighting and supporting women in the film industry, and expanding it to their first ever competition. The selected films will be screened, judged and awarded prizes for Best Original Screenplay, Best Acting, Best Directing, Best Comedy and Best Picture; the Best Picture winner taking home a prize of £500!

As well as the competition screenings (to be held in the fabulously chic Whirled Cinema in Brixton) there will be networking opportunities, a panel discussion and an after party. We know that Catfish Shorts know how to party after we covered their inaugural event and their pre-Cannes networking event in Barkston Gardens, London [pictured below].

If you’ve got a film you want to submit then there’s just one day left to do it (late submissions deadline is August 31st). Selected films will be notified on September 3rd before the competition takes place on September 9th. Check out the competition’s webpage here to find out how to submit and buy tickets, you can also check out more info on Catfish Shorts on their website.

Keeping with Catfish Shorts’ mission statement: in order to considered, all films that are submitted must have at least one female producer, writer, lead actress and/or director; though they strongly encourage applicants to have more than just one and from various ethnic backgrounds.
